Introduction

In today’s digital economy, almost every government and corporate filing requires a Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) — a secure, electronic form of signature that verifies identity and ensures data integrity.

Whether you’re registering a company, filing GST returns, submitting tenders, or signing ROC forms, a valid DSC is essential for authentication.

In this 2025 guide, Bisways Consulting Group explains what DSCs are, their types, uses, renewal process, and the updated certifying authority guidelines for the new financial year.

What Is a Digital Signature Certificate (DSC)?

A Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) is an encrypted electronic key issued by a governmentapproved Certifying Authority (CA).

It validates the identity of the individual or organisation in digital transactions and ensures that data cannot be altered after signing.

The Information Technology Act, 2000 grants legal recognition to digital signatures in India, making them equivalent to physical signatures for official filings.

Where DSC Is Used
  • MCA Filings – For signing ROC forms such as SPICe+, AOC-4, MGT-7, DIR-3 KYC, ADT-1, and others

  • GST Filings – For GST registration, return filing, and e-invoicing authentication.

  • Income Tax Portal – For e-verification of returns and submissions by companies and LLPs.

  • Tender / e-Procurement – For signing bids and documents on government procurement portals.

  • EPFO / DGFT / ICEGATE / Patent Office – For online submissions and verifications.

💡 Note: DSCs provide non-repudiation, meaning once a form is digitally signed, the signer cannot deny the action later.
